This is a vigorous hybrid resulting from a cross between C. walkeriana and L. splendida. It is specifically bred to combine the compact shape of C. walkeriana with the large, showy flowers of the Laelia parent. This plant grows plump pseudobulbs and produces highly valued, large blooms.
- Light: Requires bright, indirect light, such as filtered morning sun. Adequate light is key for flowering; the leaves should be a medium, chartreuse-green. Avoid direct sun to prevent scorching.
- Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm temperatures. Daytime should be 70-85°F (21-29°C). A nighttime temperature drop of 10-15°F (6-8°C) is necessary to promote reliable blooming.
- Humidity: Needs moderate to high humidity (50%-70%). Always ensure excellent air circulation to prevent fungal issues, especially when humidity levels are high.
- Watering: Water thoroughly only when the potting medium is almost completely dry. This hybrid prefers to dry out quickly between waterings. Reduce watering when the plant is not actively growing.
Additional Notes
This orchid requires a coarse, well-draining medium (like bark or lava rock) that allows the roots to dry rapidly. Repotting should be done when new roots begin to emerge, usually every 2-3 years.
