Native to tropical and subtropical Asian forests, this epiphytic orchid produces fragrant flowers along mature, leafless canes, most often in winter and spring. Its cascading floral display makes it especially appealing for a hanging orchid collection.
- Light: Bright, filtered light with gentle morning sun. Provide good light during the resting season, while protecting exposed canes from harsh midday sun.
- Temperature: Intermediate to warm-growing during active growth; aim for days of 70–85°F (21–29°C) and nights of 60–68°F (16–20°C). Cooler winter nights around 50–58°F (10–14°C) support its seasonal cycle; protect from frost.
- Humidity: Aim for 60–80% with steady, gentle air circulation. Maintain humidity during the winter rest without keeping roots wet.
- Watering: Water generously while new canes and roots are developing, allowing an airy growing medium to approach dryness between waterings. Once canes mature and leaves begin to fall, reduce watering substantially and stop fertilizing for a drier winter rest. Give occasional light watering to prevent severe shriveling, then resume regular watering and feeding as new growth develops.
Additional Notes:
Soft lavender-pink petals surround creamy, finely hairy, hood-shaped lips. Long, slender canes carry narrow deciduous leaves before shedding them naturally. Grow on a mount or in an open hanging basket with ample clearance below, and retain healthy leafless canes for future flowering.
