This is a select cross of Cattleya maxima, bred specifically to enhance the rare coerulea (blue-tinged) color of this large-flowered species. Native to the Andean Mountains of South America, this cross exhibits exceptional size and shape, producing flowers with striking blue lips and petals.
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light, targeting 21,500 to 32,300 lux. Leaves should be medium-green; very dark leaves mean insufficient light. Protect the plant from direct midday sun.
- Temperature: This orchid needs intermediate to warm conditions. Daytime temperatures should be 75-85°F (24-29°C), dropping to 55-60°F (13-16°C) at night. This day/night temperature differential is crucial for spiking.
- Humidity: Maintain moderate to high humidity (50% to 70%). Always ensure excellent air movement to prevent disease, especially with higher humidity.
- Watering: Water thoroughly once the potting medium is nearly dry. Water more often during active growth and significantly reduce frequency in winter or after the newest pseudobulb matures. Avoid standing water.
Additional Notes
The flowers are expected to be large and very showy, which is typical of Cattleya maxima, often blooming with two to six flowers per spike. Plant size typically reaches approximately 17.7" (45 cm) in height.
